The doctor

I know this movie from my friend JQ,

We discussed this movie together and realized that this movie actually do not talk about medical profession only, but also about other proffesionals.

What if ...you are the object of your profession.. not a subject who hold the power

When I am visiting one of the relatives who was admitted at the hospital, yesterday..and do not know anyone (if she was admitted in my hometown it might be not as difficult as this day, since I know some of medical doctors who works at hospital), then I remember all the discussion about this movie.

This movie is based on the real life story of Edward Rosenbaum, MD. Dr Rosenbaum wrote an autobiography of his experience entitled "A Taste of My Own Medicine: When the Doctor Becomes the Patient". This book formed the basis for the movie and is presently out-of-print.
Dr. Edward Rosenbaum has a cameo as himself in the movie

For summary :

The rich and succesfull surgeon, Jack McKee has no problems.... until he is diagnosed with throat cancer. He has a friend, Dr. Eli Blumfield, who always become an object of his sarcastic word. He made dr. Blumfield feel stupid in everything that they did. But still, they have a good friendship. Sometimes, dr Blumfiled could not handle his word, and said : " wished I could slit your throat".

Since he was diagnosed having throat cancer, he began experiencing as a patient in his own department. Sitting down there and talking with patient, and then having experiencing with a brilliant doctor who have same "sarcastic" ego like he used to be, he started to know that patients need an empathy and sympathy doctor more than a cold brilliant doctor who just analysed how long they can live.

He got the power for living from other patients (who used to be his patients) and realizing that whatever his friend, dr. Blumfield do, listening and communicating skill with the patient is more powerful than any skill that he had.

Then, one day, he is lying down in operation room, with his friend as his surgeon. Dr. Eli Blumfield said " I've always wanted to slit your throat, and now I get a chance to do that".
